VERSED STUDY

Privacy, in plain words.

No accounts, nothing sold, and almost nothing kept. This page says exactly what Versed Study stores, for how long, and what you can do about it.

The short version

  • No sign-up, no accounts, no passwords. You pick a pet and a first name. That is it.
  • Rooms are ephemeral. Who is in a room, where their pet is standing and what they say in chat live in the room's memory while people are in it and are wiped when the room goes idle (six hours). Chat is never written to a database.
  • Public rooms remember a sleeping pet for a day. When you leave a public room it keeps which pet you had, the first letter of your name and where your pet was standing, for up to 24 hours, so the next visitor sees a pet curled up "here earlier" instead of an empty room. No name, no address, nothing that identifies you; private rooms keep nothing. The "usually N people" note on the schedule is a rolling average of head-counts at each group session, never who was there.
  • Cork-board pins last 3 days, then fall off on their own. They are anonymous.
  • The tools keep their data in your browser only (grades, exam dates, citations, tiny steps, reader settings, Ask settings and pasted notes). Nothing is uploaded; you can clear it from your browser's site data.
  • The Ask tutor does not keep your chat. Each message (with your pasted notes) goes to our server and on to Cloudflare Workers AI to write the reply, then it is gone: we never store messages, notes or replies. The only thing written is a count of how many messages a device sent today, keyed by a salted hash of a random id and your IP address, plus a total for the whole site. The chat itself lives in your browser's memory and disappears when you reload.
  • Feedback answers from What should we build? are stored, without your name or IP address, so we can read them. An email is kept only if you type one in.
  • No third-party scripts, no ads network, no analytics. The only outside embed is the optional YouTube lo-fi player, which loads only if you press play on it. The Ask tutor may load Cloudflare's Turnstile bot check (a script from challenges.cloudflare.com, no cookies for tracking) so a script cannot spend everyone's daily allowance.

We do not store IP addresses. Cloudflare, which runs our servers, sees connection data the way any web host does; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare keeps request-level data outside our reach in the normal course of running the network.

Chat, names and pins are filtered

A strict word filter runs on names, chat and pins because this is a space aimed at students, including young ones. A message that trips it is dropped with a gentle note and is not stored. Links in pins are limited to a Study room code, a Versed Play code or one https link, shown with a warning. If someone writes that they feel unsafe, the room shows a note with helplines (Singapore SOS 1767, US and Canada 988, UK Samaritans 116 123, Australia Lifeline 13 11 14, or your local helpline).

Children, schools and the law, in plain words

  • COPPA (United States, under 13). We do not ask for names, email addresses, photos or anything that identifies a child, and we do not build profiles or track children across sites. A first name typed into a room is shown to the room and then forgotten. If you believe a child has posted personal information on the board, email us and we will remove it.
  • FERPA (United States, schools). Versed Study holds no education records: no grades, rosters or student identities reach our servers. The grade calculator runs entirely in the browser.
  • GDPR and UK GDPR (Europe and the United Kingdom). We process as little personal data as possible, on the basis of legitimate interest in running a free service you chose to open. You have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it deleted, and to complain to your data-protection authority. Because we keep no accounts, the only thing we could hold that points at you is a feedback answer with an email you typed; ask and we delete it.
  • PDPA (Singapore). The same applies: we collect only what the service needs, tell you here what that is, keep it only as long as needed, and delete it on request. Versed Apps is the organisation responsible; contact details are below.
  • Other countries. The same promises apply wherever you are. If your local law gives you more rights than the ones listed, you have those too.

Cookies and storage

We set no cookies. The tools and the room use your browser's localStorage and a service worker cache so they work offline; both stay on your device. Clearing site data for study.versedapps.com removes everything.

Third parties

  • YouTube (the optional lo-fi player). It loads only when you press play, and then YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that player.
  • Google Fonts for the two typefaces. Your browser fetches the font files from Google.
  • Crossref and Open Library when you paste a DOI or ISBN into the citation maker: your browser asks them directly for the reference details.
  • Cloudflare Workers AI runs the Ask tutor's model on Cloudflare's servers, which also host this site. Your message and notes are sent to it to generate the reply. Cloudflare does not train on that data, and we do not keep it; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare Turnstile (the bot check on the Ask page) is theirs too.
  • The "use your own AI" links in Ask (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, NotebookLM) are other companies' products. Nothing goes to them until you click, and then it goes straight from your browser to them, not through us.
  • The credit line at the bottom of each page links to the pixel artists' pages. It is not an ad network and does not track you.

Ask us anything

Email hello@versedapps.com to ask what we hold, to have something deleted, or to report a pin. A person reads it.
